The weight of my past action presses heavily upon my conscience. I must confess to a severe error in judgment: I voted in Israel’s 2015 elections, ten tumultuous years ago. This irresponsible act, committed without gravity or consideration of the potential consequences, has contributed to the disastrous outcomes we now face.
I now understand that my vote, like the votes of others, carries significant power. It legitimizes the system that governs our communities, our nation, and ultimately, our lives. Yet, I failed to recognize the enormity of this responsibility. I allowed myself to be influenced by fleeting emotions, seduced by empty promises, and swayed by lack of critical thinking. I disregarded the potential consequences for the collective good, and I ignored the potential for harm.
The consequences of my irresponsible voting are now painfully clear. Our government is plagued by deception and perfidy, and has fomented and maintained disunity between various sectors of the nation, resulting in expulsions, destruction, massacres, medical experimentation on the populace, the devastation of the country, depletion of public funds, decline of commerce, the murder of thousands and displacement of scores of thousands, and countless other outrages.
All outcomes of government policy; all with my rubber stamp of legitimacy.
It matters not for whom I voted. When I cast the ballot, I implicitly accepted the outcome, and granted power to evil men.
The very fabric of our country is tearing at the seams, and those in power feel comfortable continuing their evil practices with impunity. I bear a portion of the blame for this state of affairs, because I voted.
I cannot undo the past. However, I can strive to make amends. I will never again vote for men who have proven their dishonesty, or for regimes that have brought death and misfortune upon the Jewish people. No longer will I provide support to a perverted system. I will prioritize the long-term well-being of our nation above all else. I will seek to set the law back on the path from which it has been subverted in this land; I will advocate for Jewish governance, and I will encourage others to do the same.
I implore the public to forgive my past transgressions. I understand that forgiveness may not come easily, and I will strive to earn it through my future actions. I am committed to learning from my mistakes.
